Al Jarwan Meets Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and Tells PABSEC: Tolerance and Peace Are Strategic Necessities for Development and Stability

H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, met with H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and joint action in the fields of tolerance and peace, underlining the importance of expanding parliamentary partnerships and supporting initiatives that promote a culture of dialogue, coexistence and peace at the regional and international levels.

H.E. Papuashvili affirmed his support for the efforts of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in promoting tolerance and peace worldwide, praising the Council’s diverse initiatives. For his part, Al Jarwan expressed the Council’s readiness to work jointly with the Georgian Parliament to advance tolerance and peace in the region and across the world.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Al Jarwan’s participation in the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, hosted by Georgia, where he delivered a speech stressing the importance of strengthening parliamentary and regional cooperation to address global challenges and entrenching the values of tolerance and peace as a foundation for security, stability and sustainable development.

Al Jarwan opened his speech by thanking Georgia, its leadership and people, for their warm hospitality, and commended the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation for its efforts in organizing the session and for its role in promoting dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the region.

He noted that the meeting reflects a shared belief in the importance of parliamentary action in building a safer, more stable and more prosperous future. He also highlighted the recent participation of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States in Baku and the 14th Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace in the Republic of North Macedonia. He emphasized that parliaments are key partners in supporting dialogue, bringing views closer together, and advancing peace and sustainable development.

Al Jarwan stressed that the world is facing rapidly evolving challenges that make tolerance and peace strategic necessities, not merely moral values. He underlined that economic development and investment attraction cannot be achieved amid conflict and instability, noting that peace provides the enabling environment for economic growth, while tolerance forms the foundation of resilient societies capable of confronting challenges and turning them into opportunities.

He also reviewed the efforts of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace to build international partnerships bringing together parliaments, governments, international organizations, academic institutions and civil society. He noted that the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace works to support parliamentary diplomacy and promote legislation that advances tolerance and peace.

Al Jarwan further announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, contributing to broader institutional cooperation and paving the way for joint initiatives and programmes that serve peoples and strengthen the values of dialogue, tolerance and peace.

In his speech, Al Jarwan addressed the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence to support regional cooperation and sustainable development. He emphasized the need to develop legislation that keeps pace with digital transformation, encourages innovation, and provides a safe legal environment. He also highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy as a bridge for building trust and cooperation among peoples.

Al Jarwan had also met with H.E. Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and joint action between the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and PABSEC, in a manner that supports parliamentary diplomacy and develops joint initiatives aimed at spreading the values of tolerance and peace and enhancing regional and international cooperation.
