Mauritania criminalizes racial discrimination and intolerance

The Mauritanian authorities continue their attempt to impose equality before the law through legislation that will protect the victims of racial discrimination in all its forms.

The Justice, Interior and Defense Committee of the National Assembly held a meeting chaired by MP Mohamed Ould Cheikh, Chairman of the Committee, to discuss a draft law on the criminalization of discrimination.

During this meeting, the Committee introduced a detailed presentation by Justice Minister Mokhtar Mellal Dia, in which he reviewed the reasons behind this project and the government’s plans of action which include many political, economic and social measures to prevent and combat any kind of racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.
