The International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE Federal National Council to enhance cooperation and joint work
The International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, one of the organs of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and joint work in spreading the values of tolerance and peace around the world.
The agreement was signed by the President of the Federal National Council, H.E. Saqr Ghobash, and the President of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, H.E. Walberto Allende, in the presence of the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Federal National Council in Dubai. The meeting was attended by the board members of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and a number of Members of the Federal National Council.
His Excellency Saqr Ghobash welcomed, at the beginning of the meeting, the delegation and stressed the importance of this visit, which greatly contributes to developing various aspects of cooperation, especially at the parliamentary level.
His Excellency the President of the Federal National Council delivered a speech during the meeting that preceded the signing, in which he affirmed that the belief of the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the values and principles of tolerance is a way of life, and an inherent policy that the Emirates has adhered to since its inception, that The late founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – has established with his wise policies the values of tolerance based on positive interaction with all countries and peoples of the world.
Ghobash stressed that the Federal National Council shares the same objectives with the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace that aimed at strengthening the role of parliaments in disseminating Values of moderation as the basis for tolerance, religious pluralism, and combating extremism and terrorism. He pointed out the importance of the role of the International Parliament for tolerance in establishing principles of justice, respect and equality, criminalizing hatred and fanaticism, and the causes of discord and difference.
For his part, the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, and on behalf of the members of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, expressed the highest recognitions and appreciation to the President of the Federal National Council, His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, and all the FNC members for their generous hosting of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its international parliament in this important session.
In his speech on this occasion, His Excellency said that the UAE is one of the first countries to establish the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, which culminated in the end of 2019 with the meeting of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, with the members of the Council And its international parliament in the capital Abu Dhabi, where His Highness affirmed the UAE’s support for the council, its international parliament and all its organs, in order to achieve its goals in spreading the values of tolerance and peace around the world.
Aljarwan pointed out that today marks the anniversary of the signing of the Human Fraternity Document, which is a global and historical reference for peaceful coexistence between religions, which was signed two years ago on the land of the Emirates, recognizing the pioneering and leadership role that the United Arab Emirates offers in the field of tolerance and peace, as it has become a global symbol of tolerance, love and peaceful coexistence. He also praised the UAE efforts that culminated in many international initiatives and support to all that would enhance tolerance, security, stability and peace around the world.
His Excellency affirmed that the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Federal National Council and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, which now includes more than 75 parliamentarians from more than 75 countries around the world, will contribute to the framework for more positive cooperation and unify parliamentary efforts at the international level in the fields of tolerance and peace.
His Excellency also presented some of the work accomplished by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in the fields of spreading tolerance and peace and combating intolerance and extremism, at the parliamentary, educational and media levels, indicating that the council has completed, in cooperation with more than 30 universities around the world, a master program in tolerance and peace, which will be taught in various and major international universities.
The meeting ended with an exchange of memorial shields between the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and the UAE Federal National Council.
