Within the activities of COP 28, AlJarwan calls for the integration of youth and parallel work for peace and climate protection
Amidst the proceedings of the ninth day of the COP28 Conference of the Parties, hosted by the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, delivered the opening speech at the Conference on Promoting Multilateral Action: Youth, Peace, and Climate Security, held under the auspices of the United Nations and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA).
Al Jarwan’s address focused on the critical need to integrate youth into sustainable development and climate protection initiatives.
Recognizing the pivotal role of the younger generation as the foundation of the future, Al Jarwan emphasized that the youth will bear the consequences of climate change. He stressed the urgency for them to take a leading role in working towards a better climate and environment. Al Jarwan underscored the importance of involving young minds in projects that contribute to sustainable development, ensuring that their perspectives are considered in shaping the path forward.
Furthermore, the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace articulated a profound insight: the imperative of working in parallel for both peace and climate protection. Al Jarwan highlighted the interconnection between these two objectives, emphasizing that safeguarding the planet’s capabilities is futile without ensuring security, peace, and stability. He expressed concern over the potential risks of climate change exacerbating conflicts and violence, pointing out that the Council is actively working to unify international efforts in spreading the necessary values of tolerance and peace to achieve stability, preserve the environment, and address climate challenges.
