The Latin American and Caribbean Group of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace met at the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica

The Latin American and Caribbean Group (LACG) of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), one of the main bodies of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), held inaugural meeting at the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.
The IPTP embodies one of the most specialized parliaments in the world, dedicated to promoting global peace. The IPTP organized four sessions by now at the legislative institutions of Malta, Albania, Argentina, and Ethiopia. The IPTP grew to seventy-five parliamentarians from all around the world and its membership is in constant growth.
On December 16, the LACG of the IPTP held the inaugural meeting at the Legislative Assembly of the Costa Rica. The following eminencies had addressing at the meeting: H.E Walberto Allende, Speaker of IPTP; H.E Duarte Pacheco, President of Inter-Parliamentary Union,; H.E Aljarwan, President of GCTP, and H.E Jose Luis Fonseca Fonseca, Interim Speaker of the National Assembly of Costa Rica. Additionally, the former President of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, H.E Oscar Arias Sanchez addressed to the audience with video message. A significant group of high officials, ambassadors, and representatives of international organizations, academia, and NGOs followed the event. Among them were the Minister for Foreign Affair of Costa Rica, H.E. Rodolfo Solano Quirós, and the regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Population Fund, H.E. Harold Robbinson Davis, organization with which the GCTP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The focus of the meeting is on the role of Members of Parliament in the promotion of tolerance and peace in these challenging times of a global pandemic. А number of bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held in the coming days. Participants will also have the opportunity to be part of a program that will present the extraordinary culture of building and promoting peace and tolerance of Costa Rica.
