President Macky Sall of Senegal Receives Delegation of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace

Dakar – His Excellency President Macky Sall of the Republic of Senegal received a high-level delegation from the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), led by H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Aljarwan, President of the Council, at the Presidential Palace in Dakar.

The delegation included H.E. Roger Nkodo Dang, President of the Pan-African Parliament; Ms. Gina Sanze, Member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace from the Central African Republic; Mr. Noel Nelson Messone, Member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace from Gabon; and Mr. Baba Sana Mbaye, Member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace from Senegal.

During the meeting, Aljarwan briefed President Sall on the latest developments in the Council’s global activities and parliamentary initiatives, commending Senegal’s long-standing role—both at the national and continental levels—in promoting peace, tolerance, and coexistence. He presented to the Senegalese President an official letter of appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Council, in recognition of Senegal’s leadership and people for their pioneering contribution to peace and tolerance worldwide.

Later, the delegation met with H.E. Moustapha Niasse, Speaker of the National Assembly of Senegal, at his office in Dakar. Discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation to advance the values of tolerance and peace. Aljarwan emphasized that the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace—one of the main organs of the Council—brings together more than fifty parliaments from across the world, serving as an effective platform for shaping a more tolerant and peaceful global future through innovative initiatives and soft-power diplomacy.

For his part, Speaker Niasse praised the Council’s efforts and expressed his firm support for the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and its members, including the Senegalese delegation, reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to joint action with the Council in promoting global peace and understanding.

As part of his visit, Aljarwan also met with Sheikh Abdullah Cissé, head of the Tijaniyya Order in Senegal, in a meeting that reflected the Council’s ongoing engagement with religious and cultural leaders through its General Assembly framework, which unites educational institutions, civil-society organizations, and distinguished figures working in the fields of tolerance and peace.

Sheikh Cissé hailed the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its President’s vision, emphasizing the importance of rejecting violence and extremism and spreading the values of tolerance that lie at the heart of Islam and all divine messages.

The Council’s delegation concluded its visit with a tour of Gorée Island, which from the 15th to the 19th century served as one of the largest centers of the trans-Atlantic slave trade on Africa’s western coast. Today, the island stands as a global symbol of reconciliation and peace and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.
