The International Day of Rural Women will be commemorated today on the theme “Sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection for gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”.
UN Secretary-General, António Guterres said women and girls played a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of rural homes and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing.
He said women accounted for a substantial proportion of the agricultural labor force, including informal work.
