Grand Mufti of Lebanon Receives the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in Beirut

Beirut – His Eminence the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, received H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, along with an accompanying delegation, at Dar Al-Fatwa in Beirut. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in promoting the values of tolerance, interfaith dialogue, and social harmony.

Mufti Derian welcomed Aljarwan and praised the vital role played by the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in fostering dialogue, moderation, and the rejection of extremism. He emphasized the importance of partnership between religious institutions and international organizations to consolidate mutual understanding and compassion among individuals and societies.

During the meeting, Aljarwan presented an overview of the Council’s main achievements since its establishment, noting that he had met with Mufti Derian in the early days of the Council’s founding. He highlighted that today, after years of continuous work and success, the Council brings together more than one hundred member countries and operates across continents through its parliamentary and institutional frameworks dedicated to peace and sustainable development.

The Grand Mufti also welcomed the Council’s initiative to open a regional office in Lebanon, describing it as a step that would further strengthen Lebanon’s role as a beacon of tolerance and peace, in line with its historical and cultural legacy as a land of diversity and openness.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and coordination in promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence, and moderation, as essential pillars for peace, stability, and development in Lebanon, the region, and the world.
