Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The speakers at the panel GCTP High-Level Panel at the Sarajevo Film Festival “The Role of Film in the Promotion of Tolerance and Peace”:

H.E Ahmed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace
H.E. Ranko Krivokapic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro
Mr. Amer Kapetanović, Regional Cooperation Council
Mr. Ralf Melzer, Friedrich Ebert Foundation

turned the attention of media to the importance of movies, with their enormous global popularity and influence, especially on youth, for the promotion of tolerance and peace among different civilizations, cultures, and religions.

President Aljarwan stated that “the symbolics of Sarajevo are especially strong in this regard, as both an Olympic city and the last city under war siege in the 20th century, surviving the horrors of war and emerging as a beacon of hope for peace in the 21st century. Acknowledging the importance of public policies in arts and culture, we gathered international public policy makers, movie makers, civil society activists and youth to share their experience and suggest to the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace ways in which we could cooperate together, with film being the powerful carrier of the message of promotion of tolerance and peace. Together, we will look at the different approaches to developing impactful public policies fostering film to become a catalyst of a more tolerant and peaceful future for all.”
