HE Andriy Parubiy, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine), received HE Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, at the Ukrainian capital Kiev, in the presence of HE Salem Ahmed Salem Al Kaabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Ukraine. Mr. Parubiy welcomed Al-Jarwan and his accompanying delegation, praising the role of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in spreading a culture of tolerance, combating extremist ideology, racism and terrorism and supporting peace efforts around the world.
Al-Jarwan briefed Parubiy on the latest developments in the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its efforts to instill a culture of tolerance and the use of soft diplomacy in order to support the peace endeavor around the world, pointing out the focus on launching the first procedural session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, one of the main organs of the council, which will be held on July 6, 2018 in the Great Hall of the Maltese Parliament, in the presence of His Excellency the Speaker of the Maltese Parliament, a number of heads of regional and national parliaments, and a group of political and religious leaders around the world.
Al-Jarwan invited the Ukrainian Parliament to nominate a member to attend and participate in the first procedural session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) emphasized his deep interest in the role of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, indicating that the Council represents an international platform that calls for peace and tolerance, the rejection of extremist and fanatical ideas and the fight against terrorism through the implantation of a culture of tolerance and coexistence among peoples, which is an urgent need in our world in light of the escalation of conflicts and combats based on religious and sectarian foundations and extremist ideas. Mr. Parubiy stressed the importance of the role played by the International Parliament for tolerance and peace in gathering the efforts of parliamentary diplomacy to instill a culture of tolerance around the world.
