Al-Azhar University and GCTP to Discuss Enhancing Cooperation

H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and his entourage discussed with H. E. Dr. Muhammad Al-Mahrasawi, Al-Azhar University Chancellor, ways to enhance cooperation and collaboration in the fields of education and scientific research for the goodness of tolerance and peace over the world, during the meeting held in the University Chancellor’s office in Cairo.

Aljarwan appreciates the efforts of Al-Azhar Foundation, as a Mosque and a University, headed by the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, locally, regionally and internationally, indicating that the world today needs tolerance and renunciation of violence. He stated that the Council allocated scholarship “Master’s and PhD” on tolerance, acceptance of the other, and renunciation of violence and intellectual extremism globally, in addition to prepared a Master’s program in tolerance and peace developed by a selected group of concerned academic scholars around the world. pointing out that the Council was familiar with Al-Azhar curriculum and the efforts of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and its quest to cooperate with the Al-Azhar Foundation, as a Mosque and a University, due to their characteristics of a long history and a mild moderate method, rooted in history for more than a thousand years.

For his part, the University Chancellor – while meeting Al-Jarwan – said that the Al-Azhar Foundation, as a Mosque and a University headed by the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, is striving for the sake of all without regard to color, gender or faith, which is the same goal for which Global Council for Tolerance and Peace seeks.

He stressed that the efforts of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif bear witness to this through the close cooperation between it and the Egyptian family house, in addition to the close cooperation between it and the Vatican, which resulted in the signing of the most important document of the twenty-first century, the “Human Fraternity Document” signed by the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, on February 4, 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hajar Abu Jabal, President of the General Assembly for Tolerance and Peace, Dr. Mahmoud Siddik, Vice President for post-graduate Studies and Research, General Supervisor of Medical and Relief Convoys at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and Dr. Youssef Amer, former Vice President of the University, Head of the Religious and Endowments Committee in the Egyptian Senate.
