Speaker of the Maltese House of Representatives and Minister for Home Affairs Receive Aljarwan, Reaffirm Malta’s Support for Promoting Tolerance and Peace

H.E. Carmelo Abela, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Malta, received H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, at the Parliament building in Valletta. Their meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in advancing the values of tolerance and peace, while reinforcing parliamentary efforts that foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence among nations.

During the meeting, H.E. Aljarwan congratulated Speaker Abela on his appointment and wished him every success in his new responsibilities. He also presented an overview of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace’s key initiatives and highlighted the role of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace in promoting parliamentary diplomacy and expanding cooperation among national legislatures. For his part, Speaker Abela reaffirmed the Maltese Parliament’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with the Council and supporting its initiatives aimed at promoting peace and sustainable development.

In a separate meeting, H.E. Glenn Bedingfield, Minister for Home Affairs of the Republic of Malta, received H.E. Ahmed bin Mohamed Aljarwan at his office in Valletta. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest and explored opportunities for closer cooperation, while emphasizing the importance of promoting the values of tolerance, peace, and dialogue, and supporting international initiatives that contribute to security, stability, and peaceful coexistence among peoples.

H.E. Aljarwan congratulated Minister Bedingfield on his appointment to the new Maltese Government and wished him success in his ministerial duties. In return, Minister Bedingfield expressed his pride in the longstanding relationship he has maintained with the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, reaffirming his continued support for its mission of promoting tolerance, peace, and constructive dialogue among parliaments and peoples.

Minister Glenn Bedingfield is one of the founding members of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, one of the principal bodies of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. He joined the Parliament at its inception as a representative of the Maltese Parliament and has remained a committed supporter of its work prior to his recent appointment as Minister for Home Affairs in Malta’s new Government.
