UAE Breaks a Guinness Record for Longest Handshake

The UAE entered the Guinness Book of World Records for holding the world’s longest handshake on Wednesday.  

The event came in the framework of an initiative launched under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.

A human chain of 1,817 helped break the record during an event, titled “One World One Message” at Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi, the capital of global tolerance.

The initiative was launched by the Abu Dhabi Police’s Youth Council marking the first anniversary of the signing of the Fraternity Document .

Minister of Tolerance Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan was in attendance and praised the wide participation of community members and institutions including university and school students, Emirati and resident families, as well as federal and local bodies.

Major Mohamed Balalaa, Head of the Abu Dhabi Police Youth Council, said that the initiative aims to enhance the high status achieve by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as an international capital of tolerance and the beacon of peace.

Balalaa added that the initiative also aims to increase the social awareness on the importance of accepting others in a way that would reflect positively on providing a suitable environment for dialogue and spreading the notion of tolerance among all segments of society.
