The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace organizes an international conference at the Royal Palace in Seville
The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, in cooperation with the Foundation for Islamic Culture and Religious Tolerance in the Kingdom of Spain (FICRT), organized the “International Conference on the Role of Clergy in Spreading Tolerance and Peace” at the Spanish Royal Palace in the city of Seville, in the south of the Kingdom of Spain.
The conference was chaired by His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, with the participation of a large number of speakers from senior political and parliamentary officials in Spain, in addition to a group of senior clerics from various countries of the world.
Participating in the conference were Her Excellency Ana Mestre García, Vice President of the Parliament of Andalusia, Her Excellency Khalid Ghanem Al Ghaith, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity, Her Excellency Juan Bueno, Deputy Mayor of the City of Seville and Head of the Spanish Royal Palace, and Her Excellency Franciszek Onsewitz-Friesing, Director of the Department of Scientific Cooperation and Interreligious Dialogue. and Cultures at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria, His Excellency Dr. Osama Hashem Al-Sayyid Al-Sherbini Al-Hadidi, Director General of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif International Center for Electronic Fatwa, His Excellency Monsignor Bernardito Cleopas Ouza, Ambassador of the Vatican State to the Kingdom of Spain, and His Excellency Monsignor Manuel Palma Ramirez, Commissioner of the General Diocese of Seville for Culture and President of the College of Saint Isidro. During his opening speech, Al-Jarwan praised the holding of this important international conference in the Spanish Royal Palace in Seville, stressing that this unique archaeological palace represents for all a historical symbol of the meeting of civilizations and cultures, because of its ancient and common history.
His Excellency thanked all the participants, praising the support of the Government of Spain and the local government of the Andalusian region for holding this conference in Seville.
He said, “This conference aims to shed light on the role of clerics who have a great influence in their societies and can guide people towards acceptance of others, peaceful coexistence, and rejection of violence and extremism.”
He stressed that the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace believes that there is an urgent need to resolve crises peacefully and in accordance with heavenly teachings and the messages brought by the Almighty Creator to spread love and peace among humans.
In his speech, Al-Jarwan stressed that the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace believes in the important and pivotal role of clerics in promoting tolerance and peace in the world, by promoting common human values that encourage love, understanding, and mutual respect. Through their sermons and teachings, they can spread awareness about the importance of religious and cultural tolerance, Which contributes to building bridges of communication between different communities and enhancing social peace.
He added: “Clergy have the ability to guide their followers towards rejecting violence and extremism, and living together in peace and harmony. Through their participation in dialogue initiatives and interfaith conferences, they contribute to enhancing mutual understanding and encouraging constructive dialogue between individuals from different religious and cultural backgrounds.”
In their speech at the opening of this international conference, Her Excellency Ana Mestre García, Vice President of the Parliament of Andalusia, and Her Excellency Juan Bueno, Deputy Mayor of the City of Seville, praised the role and efforts of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in supporting and promoting the values of love, equality, brotherhood, religious and cultural tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in various countries of the world. .
We appreciate the Council’s interest in holding this conference in a historic city such as Seville in southern Spain, which represents a historical symbol of the convergence of different civilizations, cultures and religions, in addition to the fact that the Andalusia region is a symbol of peaceful coexistence between followers of different religions and cultures.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Ghaith said in his speech that the Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity extends its deep thanks and appreciation to the organizers and administrators of this important international conference, pointing out the importance of such conferences in promoting tolerance and peace around the world.
Al Ghaith stressed that the Human Fraternity Document, which was signed in 2019 in Abu Dhabi with the support and sponsorship of the wise leadership, between His Eminence the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and His Holiness Pope Francis, the Pope of the Catholic Church, is considered a global reference for the role of clergy in promoting coexistence, tolerance and peace.
He pointed out the importance of continuing to work to enhance implementation of the provisions of this historic document in a way that enhances tolerance and peace in the world, stressing the Committee’s endeavor and support for all means of cooperation and joint work with the relevant authorities to enhance the role of the clergy in spreading the culture of tolerance and peace around the world.
On the sidelines of this conference, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, signed memorandums of understanding and joint cooperation between the Council and the Center for the Development of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in Kazakhstan, the Abrahamic Forum for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, and the Messengers of Peace Foundation in the Kingdom of Spain, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and work. Joint efforts in the areas of spreading tolerance and peace.
At the conclusion of the international conference, Al-Jarwan also presented the shield of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace to the Vice President of the Andalusian Parliament and the Director of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif International Center for Electronic Fatwa, in appreciation of their efforts in supporting the goals of this Council and its initiatives aimed at promoting the values of peace and tolerance in various countries of the world.
The conference was attended and a large number of officials, ambassadors and diplomats participated in important interventions.
